    Toward the future of global corporate travel management

    This study aims to develop the global corporate travel management. In details, it reflected the current challenges in travel programme of buyers, discovered future scenarios of business travel and recommended strategic short and long-term actions. The study used qualitative approach to recognize challenges in corporate travel management. Interviews with sourcing and travel managers/assistants from three same size corporate buyers were conducted in October, 2017. Additionally, scenarios were built based on conventional intuitive logics method. Therein, 88 macro-economic and industrial trends were identified through secondary research. Discussions were organized with experts to rank the trends. Main findings from empirical research are a list of challenges in corporate travel management. Additionally, four scenarios “Demand More”, “Brand New”, “More Opportunities” and “No Surprise” were created based on two driven factors: The distribution of airlines standard network in the market share and intensity of tailored made travel services. In each scenario, proposed main travel solutions providers are travel agencies, direct booking aggregators and travel agencies, the internet, and GDS operators respectively. At the end, short and long-term strategic actions such as rewarding travellers when savings and driving toward traveller-centricity were recommended. The study contributed new aspects to the academic world. It built four future scenarios of business travel from corporate buyer’s perspective. After that, it presented scenarios implications and strategic actions for stakeholders. Such approach was not commonly used in previous studies. Besides, the study identified new participant - NDC aggregators – and new roles of GDS operators and metasearch engine in business travel distribution channels. In practice, the study tackled real business issue. It recognized the challenges and gave solutions to improve corporate travel management through short-term actions. Four scenarios and their implications mitigate the consequences of changes and clarify the managers concern. Lastly, long-term strategy navigates the global corporate travel management, at the same time, gradually changes the mindset of manager in suppliers’ negotiation and travel management

    Identification of Medical Interpreter Services in Atlanta Metropolitan Area

    Background: Over 73,000 refugees entered the U.S. in 2010. The majority of the refugee population has limited English proficiency (LEP), which is a challenge for those seeking healthcare. People with LEP are often deterred by language barriers from seeking healthcare. Interpreter services are available in some healthcare settings to help improve the communication between physicians and these patients. The availability of interpreters at primary care offices could help encourage the utilization of health services among patients with LEP. Objectives: To identify primary care offices that provide medical interpreter services in areas around the city of Clarkston, GA. To produce a reference sheet that identifies primary care doctors and the languages available for interpretation at those offices. Methods: Data on the availability of medical interpreter services was collected through the phone. Google Map was used to identify public transit routes (bus/train) and time to travel from the center of Clarkston to the medical offices. Results: Less than 50% of family practice, internal medicine, and pediatric offices provide medical interpreter services. It was found that the most common languages available for interpretation are Vietnamese, Spanish, and Mandarin. Interestingly, the current refugee populations arrive from various regions in Africa and Asia. The common languages among these groups are Bhutanese, Burmese dialects, and Farsi. The offices that provide interpreter services with languages relevant to the current refugee population are located more than 30 minutes of travel time by public transit from the center of Clarkston

    Unlocking Cross-border Philanthropy in Asia: An Assessment of Donor Interest and Infrastructure Readiness

    When Give2Asia was founded 20 years ago, international philanthropy primarily flowed in one direction, as donors in the West supported nonprofits in other locales. Strong tax incentives for charitable giving fueled a steady increase in overseas philanthropy.Today, the landscape of potential donors is far more diverse. With increasing levels of wealth across the Asia-Pacific, there is great potential to address pressing humanitarian needs by increasing funding flows between countries in the Global South.Produced in cooperation with the Asia Philanthropy Circle, King Baudouin Foundation, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, this report provides a roadmap for establishing a cross-border giving network for Asia.The multi-year research effort included interviews with 150 high-net-worth donors/institutions and survey responses from 135 nonprofits.
